‘My Craft is My Mark’ – Phase Two
The second phase of the ‘My Craft is My Mark’ (صنعتي بصمتي) nationwide campaign was launched together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH project ‘Qualification Oriented to Employment in the Craft’ – which is implemented on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) – the Kreishandwerkerschaft Steinfurt Warendorf, the Jordanian Ministry of Labour and the Technical and Vocational Skills Development Commission.
The image campaign sheds light on the numerous opportunities that skilled crafts professions have to offer, particularly in the fields of bakery, carpentry, solar panel installation and hybrid car mechanics. By raising awareness about varied skilled craft professions and highlighting inspiring success stories, the campaign promotes these occupations as viable career paths for young men and women.

‘My Craft is My Mark’ – Phase One
The first phase of the ‘My Craft is My Mark’ (صنعتي بصمتي) nationwide campaign was jointly launched in 2020 by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH project ‘Qualification Oriented to Employment in the Craft’ and EFE-Jordan. During this phase, six skilled craft occupations were promoted, namely barbering, cosmetology, mobile maintenance, plumbing, blacksmithing and car mechanics.
These highly-demanded occupations were showcased as great career paths for youth to create better futures for themselves and their families, while demonstrating their positive impact on communities and economies at large.

Solar Panel Installation
Solar panel installation is a modern profession with great prospects for the future, especially as solar panels are an excellent option for the use of renewable energy. In addition to financial advantages, they align with the trend to reduce dependence on fuels for energy production and to rely on alternative energy sources. Solar panel installation technicians are responsible for site preparation based on a specific floor plan, as well as installation, operation, monitoring and maintenance.Tasks
- Preparing the installation site for the solar photovoltaic system.
- Establishing the solar photovoltaic system structure.
- Integrating the electrical system into the solar photovoltaic system.
- Carrying out trial tests for the solar photovoltaic system.
- Conducting regular preventive maintenance work on the solar photovoltaic system, including minor repairs.

Bakery
Bakery is a traditional yet contemporary profession that was known throughout history but has taken on a more modern form today. Bakers are adept at preparing and operating baking tools and equipment, combining expert knowledge of ingredients and preparation methods to produce various types of Eastern and Western breads, alongside different kinds of pastries and desserts.Tasks
- Obtaining raw materials, such as flour, milk, sugar, ghee and yeast, and observing their expiry dates.
- Preparing the equipment for bread-making, such as mixers, fermentation machines, forming tools and ovens.
- Preparing doughs for various baked goods, such as Eastern and Western breads, pastries and cakes, while fermenting, cutting and forming them both manually and automatically before baking.

Hybrid and Electric Car Maintenance
The profession of hybrid and electric car maintenance is in high demand due to the rise in fuel prices and the shift to vehicles that run on more affordable and environmentally friendly energy sources. A hybrid and electric car technician inspects, diagnoses and maintains the mechanical systems of vehicles, and replaces interior parts.Tasks
- Maintaining the internal combustion engines, electric motors and transmissions of hybrid vehicles.
- Servicing high-voltage cables and maintaining high-voltage batteries of hybrid vehicles.
- Maintaining the inverter/converter, cooling and exhaust, fuel injection and air intake, electronic operation and braking systems of hybrid vehicles.
- Servicing the dashboard systems, circuits and chassis electrical systems of hybrid vehicles.
- Maintaining the front and rear suspension and transmission, power transmission and distribution and safety, protection, entertainment and steering systems of hybrid vehicles.

Carpentry
Although an ancient trade with a longstanding history, carpentry has evolved in terms of tools, techniques and design principles. Carpenters nowadays design, manufacture, assemble and glue wooden parts with plastic or veneers for bedrooms, kitchens and offices according to plans drawn by architects and maintain furniture pieces in need of repair.Tasks
- Sawing and straightening wooden pieces by hand and machine, and shaping wood with chisels, drills, files and equipment.
- Joining wooden pieces using screws, glue and propellants, and selecting and attaching woodwork accessories.
- Sanding wooden parts with stationary and portable smoothing planes.
- Designing, customizing and assembling tables, cabinets, beds, kitchens and parquet floors.
- Coating wooden elements with veneer and plastic.
- Maintaining wooden furniture.

Barbering
Barbering is an ancient occupation with its own set of rules, principles and rituals. A barber is the person who cuts hair and trims beards using scissors, electric shavers, razors or blades.Tasks
- Cutting and trimming hair according to client requests.
- Styling hair using chemical solutions and styling tools.
- Shaving, trimming and shaping beards and mustaches.
- Providing additional services, such as skincare and hair oil treatments.
- Ensuring that combs, scissors, razors and other instruments are cleaned and sanitized after every use.
Cosmetology
Cosmetologists or beauticians are highly demanded professions within the Jordanian market. They work closely with clients and use their experience and expertise to help achieve desired makeup looks, hairstyles and nail designs.Tasks
- Washing, cutting, colouring and styling hair.
- Offering makeup recommendations based on preferences and skincare needs.
- Providing recommendations on hair and makeup products.
- Cutting, cleaning, grooming and painting nails.
- Performing facials and scalp treatments.
- Shaping eyebrows and removing unwanted facial hair.
Mobile Maintenance
The increased usage of mobile devices in today’s modern world has reaffirmed the importance of mobile maintenance and repair technicians. A mobile maintenance technician is a skilled professional who identifies and repairs issues related to mobile technologies, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.Tasks
- Running tests to assess the functionality of mobile devices.
- Replacing damaged parts and components, such as batteries, screens, keypads and buttons.
- Advising clients on warranty issues and recommending products based on their expertise.
- Installing and updating phone software.
- Maintaining operating systems.
Plumbing
Plumbing is an essential craft in any developed country, typically involving the installation of water piping systems in buildings to supply drinking water, heating and sanitation. A plumbing technician installs or repairs piping systems, plumbing fixtures and other equipment such as water heaters.Tasks
- Setting up and maintaining sewerage and ventilation networks.
- Installing and maintaining sewerage systems, and systems for rainwater and surface water drainage.
- Fitting and repairing various household appliances.
- Installing and maintaining cold and hot drinking water faucets.
- Cutting, welding and assembling pipes, tubes, fittings and fixtures.
Blacksmithing
Blacksmithing mainly involves shaping wrought and cast iron. A blacksmith heats a piece of wrought or cast iron until it becomes malleable, then uses hand tools, such as chisels and hammers, and other techniques to forge the material into the desired shape.Tasks
- Forging and repairing a variety of metal articles, like tongs, edged tools, hooks, chains and structural components of machinery.
- Heating metal stocks in blacksmithing forges or furnaces.
- Hammering metal stocks into specified shapes and sizes on blacksmith anvils.
- Forge-welding metal parts by heating and hammering them together.
- Devising jigs and fixtures and forging special hand tools, like hammers or chisels, and setting up form blocks.
Car Mechanics
Car mechanics is a vital profession within industrial fields. The main task of a car mechanic is to service vehicles and diagnose existing problems, whether related to the internal parts or body structure.Tasks
- Inspecting vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
- Inspecing vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade them.
- Carrying out regular maintenance work, such as replacing fluids and lubricating parts.
- Providing useful advise on vehicles to the client.
